So it becomes very important to know not just how long your laptop’s battery can last before it needs a recharge, but how healthy it is. Windows laptops have a hidden feature that allows you to diagnose the health of the battery. This feature is called Battery Report Tool, and in this article I’m going to explain you how to check laptop battery health of your Windows Laptop.

How To Check Laptop Battery Health: Run Battery Report

The Battery Report tool is a hidden feature in Windows laptop, but it’s very easy to use once you know where to find it. Here is how;

Step 1: First of all launch Command Prompt. To do this, go to start menu or window search bar and search by typing ‘Cmd‘ or ‘Command‘.

Step 2: After that the Command Prompt window will appear, and you will see a black window with a file path.

Step 3: Now you have to type this text “powercfg /batteryreport” and then press enter. Now a message will be displayed saying ‘Battery life report saved’ with a file path. The file path is the location of the battery report. By default, the battery report is saved in your user folder with file path as follows – C:\Users\[Your_User_Name]\battery-report.html

Step 4: Now open the saved folder from File Explorer or you can copy the file path. For this you have to enter the copied file address in the address bar of File Explorer and then press Enter. Also, you can enter it in the address bar of Chrome.

The report generated by the battery report tool contains a long list of information, including battery life estimates and battery usage reports.

The design capacity field tells how much power your battery could have provided when it was brand new. Full charge capacity tells about the maximum power that your battery can provide at the moment. Now you have to compare these values, so that you can get approximate information about your battery’s drain and its health.

This report also contains information about how your device is used on battery and AC (Charger). Usage data can also be plotted as a graph. This helps you to know how quickly your battery can drain.

In the Recent usage section, you can get information regarding the time duration during which your laptop’s battery was under use. Every drain data over the last three days is tracked in the Battery usage section. Under the Usage history section, you can also get a full history of the battery’s usage.

The Battery capacity history section explains how the battery capacity has changed over time. Here you will also find information related to the Design Capacity, or how much the battery was designed to handle and Full-charge capacity of your laptop’s battery.
