But check you EPF balance and other details by using any method, the most important thing is that you must have your UAN number & activated.

How to Generate UAN Number?
Most of the time, you can get your UAN (Universal Account Number) number directly from your employer. In most of the companies, you can find your UAN number printed on the salary slip. But if your employer has not shared the UAN number or you don’t find that printed on your payslip, then you can generate UAN number in the following ways:
Step 1: Go to the UAN member portal

Step 2: Then click on “Direct UAN Allotment by Employees” at the bottom right of the page.
Step 3: Enter your Aadhar number & captcha and wait for a One Time Password (OTP) to be generated and sent to your registered mobile number.

Step 4: Enter the OTP received on registered number and wait for the system to fetch your information from the Aadhar database and auto- complete the required fields.
Step 5: Then click on ‘Get Your UAN‘. You will also receive your UAN number through SMS on your mobile.

Documents Required to Generate UAN Number?
If you have just started at your first job, then you have to produce the following documents in order to generate your UAN.
a) Identity Proof: Driving License, Passport, Voter ID, Aadhar Card
b) Address Proof: Ration Card, Rental Agreement, Any Utility Bill in your name
c) Bank Account Details: Bank Account Number, Branch Details, IFSC Code
d) PAN card
e) Aadhar card
f) Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Card
1. How to Check PF Balance Online Using EPFO Portal
To check the EPF balance using the online portal, it is necessary that you have first activated your Universal Account Number (UAN). Universal Account Number is a unique identification number that is provided to all the people who have enrolled in the EPF scheme.
Step 1: If you have UAN number , then you can skip to step no 2. And if you don’t have UAN number, then first go to “Member e-Sewa” portal and click on “Know Your UAN”. If your UAN number is not activated, then you can activate it by clicking on “Activate UAN” link on the same page.
Step 2: Now, if you have your UAN number activated, then go to to https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login or https://www.epfindia.gov.in/ or EPFO portal.

Step 3: Then go to “Services” tab and then click on “For Employees” from the drop down option.
Step 4: Now click on ‘Member Passbook’ option that appears on the screen.

Step 5: Then you will be redirected to a login page where you have to enter your UAN number, Password and a captcha.
Step 6: Once you logged in, you can access your EFP account and can check your PF balance and much more.

2. How to Check PF Balance by Missed Call
You can also check your PF account balance just by giving a missed call to a particular number from your registered mobile number. But this facility is only available to people who have integrated their UAN number with their KYC details. And if you are unable to avail this facility, then you can take the help of your concerned employer.
If your UAN number is integrated with your KYC details, then follow the below steps:
Step 1: Just give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
Step 2: After the missed call, you will receive a message related with your PF account balance and details.
3. How to Check PF Balance on UMANG App
There is another way of checking the PF balance and details of your EPF account on mobile phones, i.e., by the help of Umang App. The government launched the Umang App to provide access to various government services in a single platform.
Using this Umang App you can view your EPF passbook, raise claim and even track the raised claim in just few clicks. But to use the app you have to complete the one time registration using your mobile number and alos have to activate your UAN number.
Here is step to how to check PF account using Umang App:
Step 1: Download ad install Umang App in your phone from google play store.

Step 2: Now open the Umang App.
Step 3: Then click on EPFO option.
Step 4: After that select Employee Centric Service under EPFO section.
Step 5: On the next screen, you will see a ‘View passbook’ option. Click on it.

Step 6: After that, you have enter your UAN number and click on ‘Get OTP’.
Step 7: Then you will receive a one-time password on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP at the place of enter OTP and click on Submit.
Step 8: After this, you will be able to view your passbook along with PF balance and all other details.

4. How to Check PF Balance by SMS
EPF balance can also be checked by sitting at home just by sending a SMS and you will get all details related to your PF account. But for this, first you have to activate your UAN number through EPFO portal. Also your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and bank details must be linked to the UAN to avail these services.
Now, if you have your UAN number activated, then for checking PF balance through SMS, you have to send a message by typing “EPFOHO UAN ENG” to “7738299899” number. As soon as the SMS is sent successfully, you will get a message with the PF balance on your registered mobile number.
Here the last three letters in “EPFOHO UAN ENG” indicates the language in which you want to avail this facility. In this case, preferred language is English.
The important point to note here is that you can receive messages in your own regional language but for this you have type the language code after UAN while typing the message.
For example, to receive message in Hindi language, one has to type the code HIN. Similarly, GUJ for Gujarati, PUN for Punjabi, KAN for Kannada, MAR for Marathi, TAM for Tamil, TEL for Telugu, BEN for Bengali and MAL for Malayalam.
